Liverpool officially announces the signing of Michael Edwards.

Michael Edwards, Liverpool’s former sporting director, who joined the club a decade ago, led a successful project in collaboration with the German manager Jurgen Klopp before the duo parted ways. Edwards’ departure marked the transition of the German coach into the primary figure at Anfield.

Today, Tuesday, Liverpool FC management officially announced the signing of Michael Edwards to take on a new role within the Anfield fortress starting from the next season.

The British newspaper “The Sun” revealed that Michael Edwards is returning to Liverpool in a leadership role, not as a sporting director. He will have absolute authority in managing football operations and will wield significant influence in the club’s future projects, whether in terms of transfers or the appointment of a new manager.

Liverpool is seeking to secure the team’s walls to avoid any upheaval after coach Jurgen Klopp announced his departure with his coaching staff at the end of the current season. Several names are linked to succeed the German coach, with the most prominent being Xabi Alonso, the current coach of Bayer Leverkusen and former Liverpool player.

The newspaper pointed out that one of Edwards’ first tasks is to finalize the appointment of Richard Hughes as the club’s sporting director, which is expected to be officially announced at the end of the season.

The Reds’ management was keen to secure Edwards’ contract before the end of the season to prevent any competitors from snatching him away, especially as he received strong offers recently, notably from Chelsea.
